NO-DIG LIVE 2010

A successful event in an age of instability

Exhibitors at NO-DIG LIVE 2010 pulled out all the stops to ensure that the industry was presented with a truly magnificent and representative display of the latest products, techniques and services in trenchless technology.

The 2010 show was the tenth in this biennial series and there was clearly a competitive spirit between exhibitors, each determined to put on the most innovative displays and demonstrations. The outdoor area was buzzing with activity and the number and range of demonstrations and equipment will surely have captured the visitors’ imagination.

Despite the tough economic climate and subsequent downturn in many sectors of the UK construction industry, NO-DIG LIVE held its head high and presented more than 70 stands, 24 of which were outside.  In addition to UK manufacturers and suppliers, exhibitors came from seven countries. Many new products and innovations were on display, with many companies demonstrating the capabilities of their equipment.

Exhibitor feedback was extremely positive, with the majority commenting that the quality of visitors met or exceeded their expectations.  Attracting large numbers of visitors is a constant challenge to organisers in a climate when everyone scrutinises the potential benefit of their attendance at trade shows.  NO-DIG LIVE 2010 once again proved that a day invested at this specialist event can deliver a valuable educational experience to industry professionals.  The visitors numbers were sustained and whilst the majority were from UK, they were also joined by colleagues from 20 countries.

Free Seminar Programme
Building on the successful format of previous years, the organisers expanded the early morning seminar programme to all three days. These sessions are free of charge to any visitor prepared to arrive at 8.00 a.m. before the exhibition opening at 10.00 a.m.  Compiled by UKSTT, the programmes were varied and topical and were extremely well supported by visitors wishing to make the most of their visit to the show.

Day 1’s programme was on the subject of minimising the congestion and disruption caused by street works.  Norman Baker MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport addressed the audience and was questioned by delegates on the Government’s policies. Presentations were also made by National Grid and Les Guest, CEO of NJUG.

The Private Sewer Transfer debate on Day 2 attracted a full house, with more than 200 visitors eager to voice their views on the impact that the transfer of private sewers to public ownership may have on the drainage business.  The session was chaired by David Sankey, Chairman of South Staffordshire Water and presentations were made by senior representatives of Wessex Water, Dyno-Rod and  Phil Mills, Director Policy Consulting Network Ltd.

The final seminar focused on carbon and the environment with the results of detailed analysis and case studies being shared with delegates from Malcolm Waddell of the WRAP programme and Andy Russell of WRc
